THE COMMON MISCONCEPTION THAT VAWA IS ONLY FOR WOMEN

In my practice, I come across many victims of domestic violence. Some of them are married to U. S. citizens and remain without a legal status. A lot of them are men. To many people, this comes as a surprise, mainly because of the name: Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). However, men are just as likely to be victims of abuse when their status is not legal, and they rely on their significant other for sponsorship. It is fortunate that the law has a remedy for such treatment and quite often, our firm has won cases for battered spouses and helped them adjust their status.
